Information | The intent of the Town of Truro Art Acquisition Program is to create and maintain a collection of visual art that represents the unique historic and artistic development of the area. A Selection Committee views and purchases one piece of art to be placed on permanent display in the Town of Truro Civic Building on Prince Street. Criteria for Selection Quality art: Good composition, technical competence, presentation (in terms of preservation), and the relevance of the style and development of the artist. The historic development and lifestyle of the Town of Truro: This criteria is secondary, but will be considered. Medium: One of the goals of the program is to balance the art collection with a variety of media. Selection Committee members are asked to be acquainted with, and to consider previous submissions, when choosing a new addition for the collection. Selection Committee The selection committee is composed of: - A representative of a public community art organization or interested citizen, - Two members of Truro Town Council, - A Parks, Recreation and Culture Department representative, - A professional or recognized artist. Art Show The Annual Art Show is open to the public, and is hosted by both the Town of Truro and Truro Art Society. It is held at the NSCC Truro Campus in the McCarthy Hall Gallery. Selection Process Art Show: The month-long Art Show gives artists the opportunity to display a maximum of three works of art for the Selection Committee and General Public. Selection: After acquainting themselves with the submissions, the Selection Committee members will view all of the artwork and meet to make a decision. Announcement:A formal announcement of the selection is made at a reception held by the Town of Truro for the artists, Selection Committee members, Truro Town Council, the public and the media.
